Fargo Through a Wrestling Mom’s Eyes

There is just something special about Fargo.

Maybe it is the size of the brackets. Maybe it is seeing wrestlers from every corner of the country walk into the Fargodome ready to test themselves. Maybe it is knowing how many early mornings, late practices, long drives, sore muscles and family sacrifices came before that first whistle.

As a wrestling mom, I know the people sitting in the stands are wrestling every point right along with their athletes. We hold our breath during every scramble, lean with every takedown and feel every second on the clock. Whether the match ends with a win or a loss, we know how much courage it took just to step onto those mats.

As a photographer, I love the moments that happen between the moves just as much as the action itself. Everything from the look of determination before the whistle, the relief after a close match, the coach waiting in the corner and the family celebrating in the stands.

We were not matside taking photos at the 2026 Fargo Championships, but we certainly followed along and cheered for some good wrestling… and that is exactly what Fargo delivered again this year.

Our experience photographing Fargo wrestling in 2025 was one we will never forget. The energy, emotion and nonstop action made it one of our most memorable wrestling photography experiences.

2026 Fargo Junior Girls Freestyle Champions

Congratulations to all 16 Junior Girls Freestyle champions. Pennsylvania led this championship list with three winners, while Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana each celebrated two champions.

Kansas came away with three 16U Girls Freestyle champions, while Oklahoma celebrated two champions. Every weight class gave fans another young wrestler to keep an eye on in the seasons ahead.

California and Florida each earned three Junior Freestyle championships. Iowa and Pennsylvania each added two champions to an impressive national field.

2026 Fargo 16U Greco-Roman Champions

Iowa produced four 16U Greco-Roman champions, the most of any state in this division. Illinois and Alaska each had two wrestlers bring home stop signs.

The Names We Will Remember, and the Names Still to Come

One of my favorite parts of Fargo is watching a wrestler have the tournament that changes everything. A name you may not have heard before the week began can suddenly become a name the entire wrestling community remembers.

Some of the 2026 champions were already well known. Others introduced themselves to wrestling fans in a very big way. All of them now have a Fargo stop sign and a place in the tournament’s history.

And that already has us wondering: Who will be next?

Which young wrestler is putting in the work right now, preparing to make a run through Fargo next summer? Which family will pack the car, make the long drive and experience that unforgettable moment when their wrestler earns a place on the podium?

We cannot wait to see which new names head to Fargo in 2027.
